It’s never too early or late to start raising young people to be antiracist!

Join us on Thursday, June 16th on Zoom as we celebrate Juneteenth—and learn how to talk to the young people in our lives about its history and significance. Ibram X. Kendi, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow, will be joined by panelists to discuss Juneteenth; the ways it is celebrated across the country; how the holiday can serve as the perfect jumping-off point to talk to kids from toddlers to teens about our country’s complicated, often-ugly history; and how they can shape an antiracist future.

Every ticket will include a copy of Dr. Kendi’s forthcoming book, How to Raise an Antiracist, which has been called “the quintessential parenting book for these times” by Publishers Weekly. Buy your ticket soon to get a special copy with a signed bookplate from Dr. Kendi! The event will also feature a special conversation between Dr. Kendi and illustrator Cbabi Bayoc about their new children’s book Goodnight Racism, a modern bedtime classic that gives children the language to dream of a better world.

If you’ve ever lived in Charlotte for a period of time, you may have heard grumblings about local government’s habit of replacing the city’s history every 10 years or so with new buildings and businesses. So, in an effort to help the Queen City’s next generation of adults connect the dots between past events’ impact on present day Charlotte, we’ve launched the Give the Gift of Legacy campaign.

Our goal is to donate 100 copies of local historian Pamela Grundy’s new book Legacy: Three Centuries of Black History in Charlotte, North Carolina to ten schools in the Charlotte area. This campaign will be in effect from March 1st-31st and is solely dependent on the generosity of our amazing supporters. To donate a copy of the book, please follow the steps below:

      1. Add Legacy to your Shelves shopping cart. (You can donate as many copies as you want).
