Kregel Publications recently published author Jayna Breigh’s debut novel The Hunted Heir, which is also a February ’25 Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian Subscription Book Pick. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration behind Jayna’s suspense novel and the process of getting it into the hands of readers.
Please share why you decided to write a Legal Romantic Drama.
What did you enjoy most about writing your debut novel The Hunted Heir?
I really like character building. The character DeMarcus Johnson has been around for two previous unpublished novels. I’ve been getting to know him for ten years and I always planned for him to be in the last book of a three book series. Although books 1 and 2 are not available (yet?), DeMarcus has been the most fun character I have ever written.
Speaking of character building, who’s your favorite character in The Hunted Heir and why?
After DeMarcus I would say G’Mama. She made me laugh and I loved putting funny words in her mouth to say.
Is there anything that you’d like people to feel after reading your novel?
The book is a blend of legal suspense/thriller, so I hope they have a roller coaster of emotions. What makes roller coasters fun is that [they’re] ultimately safe and [The Hunted Heir] is a safe, fun, thrilling ride.
