Brenda Palmer gave God her yes

In full transparency, your Friendly Neighborhood Bookseller didn’t begin following preacher, podcaster, and author Brenda Palmer until a few months ago. I had come across a few of her Instagram reels over the last year, so I did know of her but it wasn’t until I read an advanced reader copy of her debut book The Journey of Yes that I realized how necessary her testimony and ministry are for the revival we’ve been praying for in our nation. Let me explain.

Everybody who’s popular in the American church isn’t following Jesus

I am very careful about who and what I subscribe to online, especially in regard to Christian content. Unfortunately, there are people within the American church who initially started their ministry devoted to giving glory to Jesus Christ but have since lost their way. Like Brenda, I’ve been on my own journey of radical obedience to the LORD and guarding my ear and eye gates is vital, especially in this era of U.S. history where deception and propaganda are at an all-time high. As a minister of the gospel, one of the things that I repeat often is to be discerning and not distracted. I even designed a journal with the same message for fellow writers and notetakers who love God as much as I do.

Brenda Palmer keeps it real in her debut book The Journey of Yes

One of the most refreshing things about Brenda’s debut book is how honest she is about what she’s done, seen, and experienced (good and bad) on her journey of yes to Jesus. She doesn’t sugarcoat the concerns she’s had along the way or pretend that she hasn’t struggled with accepting God’s call on her life. I recently watched one of her podcast episodes for the very first time titled Be Still + Know and I was blown away by her vulnerability. She’s the real deal and I can’t wait to see how the LORD gets the glory from her faithfulness going forward.

If you’ve been here for the last 12 months or so, then you know that God has been shifting Shelves to align with His will. In addition to launching our Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian Book Subscription last Fall, we plan to host both virtual and in person events with Christian authors similar to the book signing that we’re having with Brenda Palmer on Friday, July 18, 2025, which is officially sold out!
