Our bookstore has had the pleasure of working with her on the release of two of her novels: Something Good and What We Found in Hallelujah. Vanessa’s faith in God coupled with her gift for writing fiction eventually earned her a book contract with a large publishing house. Though her novels continue to gain popularity in mainstream media, Vanessa has experienced many of the same challenges that indie Christian authors do today. Unlike traditionally published authors, indie authors have to independently publish and market their own books. This includes contacting bookstores directly to request that they carry their book and possibly setting up consignment accounts with individual stores. As an indie bookstore whose founder loves Jesus Christ with every fiber of her being, we want to take more territory for the kingdom of God in the book industry by bridging the visibility gap in Christian fiction through our new Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription, which is designed to celebrate Christian authors of all genres.

Then choose at least 3 genres that you’re open to reading (you can choose more than three), which will help your Friendly Neighborhood Bookseller determine what book to give you each month. Finally, add your RIAL Christian book subscription to your cart, enter your debit or credit card information on the checkout page, and submit your order.
How much does Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription cost?
Our new Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription is the same affordable price as our Reading Is a Lifestyle Young Adult book subscription, which is $18 per month plus delivery. Readers can choose to pay for their book subscription monthly or every 3 months ($54 plus delivery). This amount takes into account the unique publishing and distribution challenges that many indie Christian authors face in comparison to traditionally published authors while ensuring RIAL Christian subscription members have access to the same perks that our non-RIAL Christian subscription members get such as 20% off all books on our website.
When will I receive my first Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian subscription book pick?
All new Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription memberships that are purchased between the 1st and 19th of any month (this includes renewal payments too) will receive a RIAL Christian book pick the following month. Any RIAL Christian membership purchased after 11:59pm ET on the 19th day of a month will receive their first RIAL Christian book pick the month after the upcoming month. For example, if you purchase our subscription on January 20th, you will receive one of our March ’25 book picks NOT one of our February ’25 book picks.
In celebration of the launch of our new Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription this month, we are giving readers until 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, November 20th to sign up, so that they can receive 1 of our first 3 RIAL Christian book picks in December.
Do I get to pick my own Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian subscription books?

Once you tell us what genres you’re open to reading, your Friendly Neighborhood Bookseller will pick a newly released adult book for you each month that was written by a Christian author and you won’t know what you’re getting until it’s delivered to your home. All available delivery options will be made visible to you based on the zip code that you enter at checkout, including whether your monthly subscription book pick is eligible for Local Pickup. USPS shipping is available to all Shelves Bookstore customers, plus you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time by logging into your Shelves account. A pause lasts for 90 days and there’s no limit on how many times you can pause your subscription.
