USA Today Bestselling author Jess Armstrong is back with another novel in her award-winning Ruby Vaughn Mystery book series and let’s just say it’ll make you want to read The Curse of Penryth Hall and The Secret of the Three Fates all over again. Armstrong’s novel The Devil in Oxford will officially hit shelves on Tuesday, November 4th and we’re convinced that you’re going to enjoy it as much as our Reading Is a Lifestyle Subscription Crew love books 1 and 2. We even asked some of our subscription members: Stephanie (RIAL Member since Feb ’21) and Savanna (RIAL Member since May ’21) to share their honest thoughts about the series and here’s what they had to say.
Who’s your favorite character in the Ruby Vaughn Mystery series and why?
Savanna: Ruby, of course. She’s a strong-willed, snarky woman doing what she wants in a time when women needed a man’s permission to do anything.
Stephanie: Ruby is my favorite. I love a flawed protagonist who is aware of who they are, what their shortcomings are but who knows that they are meant to be doing what they are doing.
What do you enjoy most about author Jess Armstrong’s writing style?
Savanna: Jess knows how to bait you with just enough information or romantic tension to get you hooked and then not resolve it until the end.
Stephanie: She keeps the action moving and keeps you enthralled, wanting to get to the next page, the next halter, the next book as quickly as you can.
What type of reader would you recommend the Ruby Vaughn Mystery books to?
Savanna: Anyone who wants a little bit of magic and romance with their historical mysteries.
Stephanie: Anyone because it has plenty to appeal to readers of many different genres. There’s even a little bit of will they/won’t they romance.
Describe The Curse of Penryth Hall and The Secret of the Three Fates books in one word?
Savanna: Suspenseful
Stephanie: Highly addictive
