When she’s not picking books each month for our signature Reading Is a Lifestyle book subscription and fulfilling orders for our corporate customers, she is hosting weekly prayer calls, teaching Bible study, and reviewing revelations from God that she’s written in her Praying Is a Lifestyle journals. With 5 years of full-time bookselling under her belt and 2+ years of ministry, Abby is ready to merge her love for Christ and reading by launching a book subscription option dedicated solely to customers that want to read books by Christian authors.
If you’re familiar with Shelves Bookstore’s signature Reading Is a Lifestyle book subscription, then you know that our subscription service is very unique in comparison to what readers are used to seeing in various Book Club, Bookstagram, and BookTok communities. Not only do our members love our book subscription because we give them the opportunity to meet & chat with authors each month, but they also appreciate how intentional we are about introducing readers to debut authors and their stories. So, imagine how much good Shelves can do for the body of Christ when we put this same effort into celebrating and promoting fiction & nonfiction books written by Christian authors!
Hebrews 12:2 states that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. We also know that every good gift comes from above (James 1:17) and picking good books for readers is our gift to customers that want to avoid getting sucked into the algorithm of reading books that are often based on what’s trending in culture. With our new Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription we’ll have the chance to forge relationships with smaller publishing houses and self-published authors too. This is something that our indie bookstore hasn’t been able to do much of in the past, so we’re very excited to learn and grow in this area of bookselling.
Jesus always served & supported the weak in society because He understood that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). Although Christian books are in demand, they don’t do nearly as well in the marketplace as non-Christian titles, especially if the author isn’t a spiritual leader or popular speaker like 2x New York Times Bestselling author Kendra Adachi. We are blessed to be 1 of 2 indie bookstores where fans of her work can preorder signed copies of her new book The PLAN, which is scheduled to hit shelves on October 8, 2024. Through our new Reading Is a Lifestyle Christian book subscription, we want to serve even more authors who believe that the Holy Bible is the infallible word of God by shining light on Christian books that have weaker visibility, which will hopefully encourage customers of all backgrounds to buy and read them.
Jesus often used parables (short fictitious stories) to teach people about the kingdom of heaven, so it makes sense that Christian authors should use their gift of writing to bring Him glory through storytelling.
